Urban Nostalgia - part of "DANKE AN" Lette Verein 2024 (graduation project)
For this project, Oona Baron explores her relationship with the city she grew up in: New York. Baron endeavors to capture the essence of the place that played a pivotal role in shaping her identity.
She employs a distinct visual language characterized by high contrast, vivid colors, and a focus on capturing the hidden images found in reflections of New York’s towering facades. Through this stylistic choice, she endeavors to convey the dynamic energy and vibrancy within the city's bustling streets.
Baron's street photography serves as both a testament to and a celebration of New York City. The images hope to convey a sense of nostalgia, as Baron explores the profound impact that the city has had on her growing up. In doing so, she not only reconnects with her roots but also pays homage to the city that continues to hold a special place in her heart.
Beyond just being a personal reflection, Baron's project also serves as an exploration of the feeling of belonging. Through her portrayal of New York City, she invites viewers to contemplate their own relationships with place and the ways in which these connections shape our understanding of self.
Through her imagery, she invites audiences to embark on a visual journey through the streets of New York City, where the past converges with the present in a timeless exploration of identity, memory, and belonging.
