I’m Oona Baron, a 21 year old, German-American street photographer raised in New York City, now living in Berlin since 2014. Throughout my youth and upbringing I grew up in a very creative environment--my mom is a documentary filmmaker and my father is a writer. Through them, I’ve found myself surrounded by stories, told both visually and narratively, and quickly longed to tell my own. This lead to my eagerness to continue this story telling with photography and applied to Lette Verein in Berlin, where I was accepted in 2021 and have continued to pursue my studies there and where I will graduate in the summer of 2024.
In my photography I am attracted to the nostalgia of fashion from different eras that are hidden amidst our contemporary time as well as playing with color. I find myself taking from different artistic fields such as cinema and capturing the smallest detail that might pass one by while walking the streets. When I take a picture I want the viewer to ask themselves: “When was this taken? This couldn’t possibly be now!” My images are hoping to tell the story of years past through fashion and lively color; stories that seem to be fleeting from our time now, but that you can still find glimpses of if you just keep a little eye out.
